Kooser State
Park is a 250 acre wooded area, lying in the heart
of a summer vacation area and winter playground.
Kooser State Park is located on PA Route 31 midway
between the Donegal Exit 91 and Somerset Exit 110
of the Pennsylvania Turnpike. At the eastern
foothills of Laurel Mountain summit. With an
altitude of 2,600 feet and a good trout stream
running the full length of the park, the park is a
favorite of many visitors.

Laurel Hill
State Park consists of 3,935 acres of mountainous
Somerset County. To reach the park from the PA
Turnpike Somerset Exit 110 drive west 10 miles
from Somerset on Rt 31, turn left onto Trent Road
by a directional sign--Laurel Hill State Park. The
park may also be reached from Pennsylvania
Turnpike Donegal Exit 91 by turning left on PA Rt
31 and heading east to PA Rts 381/711. Turn right
onto PA Rts 381/711 and go south to Champion. Turn
left onto County Line Road and follow the signs to
Seven Springs and Laurel Hill State Park. The
topography of the park is typical of the Allegheny
Plateau province. The 65.5 acre Laurel Hill Lake
is a prime attraction of the park.

Laurel Ridge

Laurel Ridge
State Park, 13,625 acres, stretches along the
Laurel Mountain from the picturesque Youghiogheny
River at Ohiopyle to the Conemaugh Gorge near
Johnstown. This large park spans Cambria, Fayette,
Somerset, Westmoreland, and Indiana counties. The
Laurel Highlands Hiking Trail is the major 70 mile
hiking and backpacking trail from Ohiopyle to near
Johnstown and is the main feature of the park. The
trail traverses state parks, state forests, state
game lands, other public lands, and private lands.
The hiking trail is open year-round and is marked
approximately every 100 feet with 2" and
5" yellow blazes. Side trails are marked with
blue blazes. Mileage monuments are found every
mile.

Ohiopyle State

Located
primarily in Fayette County, Ohiopyle State Park
encompasses approximately 19,050 acres of rugged
natural beauty and serves as the gateway to the
Laurel Mountains. The focal point of the area is
the more than 14 miles of the Youghiogheny River
Gorge that passes through the heart of the park.
The "Yough" provides some of the best
whitewater boating in the East as well as
spectacular scenery. Surrounding Ohiopyle Falls is
the Falls Day-Use Area, the central point for the
casual visitor. This area provides parking, a
modern comfort station, a gift shop/snack bar, and
over-look platforms with magnificent scenery for
the eyes or the camera.

Linn Run State
Park
(borders Somerset County)
Located in
Westmoreland County bordering Somerset County. The
park is a 571 acre park that offers picnicking,
hiking, hunting and fishing. Camping is offered in
rustic cabins. |
